Rising Sun Pictures is currently seeking experienced Houdini Technical Directors to join our Pipeline team.

Employment period: These are a long-term position with an immediate start.
Location: Adelaide, Australia. This position is open to Australian and international applicants. Visa and relocation assistance provided where applicable.

Position Overview

Strong applicants will have held similar positions within recognised vfx facilities, helping create realistic simulations in Houdini and rendering software such as Arnold or Mantra. Applicants should maintain a broad interest and understanding of how artists and technicians work in the vfx pipeline, and how data and information flow departments.

Responsibilities

Broadly speaking, your work at RSP will be focused on providing Houdini based artists with fast, intuitive tools which in turn allow them to concentrate on making artistic decisions, rather than technical problem solving.
Create, update & maintain facility tools and workflows for houdini based artists in the context of specific shows.
Provide broad technical assistance to houdini artists resolving technical problems that in turn improve performance and efficiency.
Take tools that artists have prototyped and develop them into robust, production-ready tools.
Ensure tools and knowledge developed for specific shows can be re-utilised cross-project as general purpose tools.
Provide regular updates to your direct supervisor, informing them of any issues that may affect progress, offering solutions as required.
Maintain integrity and structure of the pipeline & workflow.
Meet stringent delivery deadlines under tight production constraints.

Required skills and experience

Minimum 3+ years of relevant experience creating &/or supporting high-end visual effects across similar roles.
Expert Houdini user with familiarity of other cg applications such as Arnold, Nuke, Maya, Mari and Photoshop.
Confident in one or more programming languages such as Python, Vex, C++, and Hscript.
Experience using programming tools such as compilers, debuggers, and version control systems.
Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent work experience. Self taught applicants welcome to apply.
Experience unix based operating systems such as Linux.
Strong initiative and problem solving skills.
Must have excellent communication and organizational skills.

Position Overview

As an Animation TD you will be responsible for building & maintaining show & facility tools and setting workflows work for riggers and animators. In this role you will be focused on providing riggers and animators with fast, intuitive tools that allow the team to concentrate on making artistic decisions rather than technical ones. As a team player, you are available to help riggers and animators overcome technical problems that may be impeding their progress.

Successful candidates will have high level understanding of character and creature rigging, for hero animation, motion capture based animation, and secondary animation such as muscle, skin, and fur dynamics. You take tools and knowledge developed for a specific show or character, and turn them into general purpose tools that can be used in many situations. You can also take tools that have been prototyped by artists and repurpose them into robust production-ready tools that have been stress tested. You have a broad interest and understanding of the VFX pipeline, and how data and information flows through production.

Responsibilities

Create intuitive facility tools and workflows for riggers & animators.
Assist in solving technical problems within the animation team.
Work closely with other Layout, Modellers and Animators to hit delivery targets.
Demonstrate progress through the regular submission of work in progress and daily updates.
Clearly communicate with production any delays or obstacles that may impact task delivery.
Provide thorough QA and sanity checks of rigs before they reach your internal client.

Required Skills and Experience

Minimum 4+ years of relevant rig & character experience across high-end feature film.
Expert Maya user and are familiar with other CG applications such as Motionbuilder, 3dEqualizer, Houdini, Nuke, Mari and Photoshop.
Confident with programming tools such as compilers, debuggers, and version control systems.
Strong experience with one or more programming languages such as Python, C++, and Mel.
Strong experience using unix based operating systems such as Linux and OS X.
Maintain a calm and professional demeanour in a deadline focused work environment.
Technical and creative problem solving with a service oriented mindset.
Visual Effects, Fine Art, Computer Science, Physics or Mathematics or related tertiary qualification may be required for international applicants.

* Working closely with the design team to implement their designs, primarily in Lua

In addition, as a member of the software engineering team, you are expected take an active role in the definition and evolution of FST core products as well as all customer projects. As such, you will specify, design and develop software for new projects. It is expected you will be able to provide leadership and direction in your areas of interest.

Role
Reporting into the Sys Admin Manager, this permanent opportunity for a Linux Systems Administrator is part of a team responsible for managing and maintaining the company’s infrastructure. Based onsite, duties will include, but not be limited to:

• Designing, configuring, and deploying servers

These projects are almost exclusively completed by the in-house staff meaning it is up to them to propose, plan and identify the best suited technologies to use for successful implementation. As the company evolves, there will be many opportunities to grow your skills and experience in a number of different technical areas, with you being actively encouraged to initiate new projects as well as providing input on others.

Skills & Experience
From a technical perspective, you will have experience in two or three of the below technologies to very good standard.

A key component of NIWA's research infrastructure is the High Performance Computing Facility (HPCF) (http://www.niwa.co.nz/our-services/hpcf), which is used to support research activities in climate, chemistry climate, weather, river flood, sea state, ocean, sea-level, and inundation modelling and forecasting, as well as an operational environmental forecasting system (EcoConnect). Within the National eScience Infrastructure (https://www.nesi.org.nz/) the system also supports the High Performance Computing (HPC) requirements of researchers within the national research community.

We are seeking a Systems Engineer for our HPCF Operations Group, part of the NeSI (national) Platforms Service. In this role you will provide systems support to operational and science users. Daily monitoring and maintenance of systems, servers, storage and services, for correct functionality and optimum performance are key responsibilities of this position. There will also be an opportunity to help us extend and enhance OpenStack deployments from the bare metal.

We are looking for an operations expert with a few years of experience in Cluster management and operating Openstack environment who also has:

- a tertiary qualification in computer science and/or other sciences, and equivalent work experience in System Administration, Development, IT Operations / DevOps.
- a solid understanding of Linux / UNIX preferably in HPC service, datacentre, or cloud computing environment.
- parallel filesystem knowledge (GPFS, Spectrum Scale, Spectrum Scale Protect).
- strong scripting skills; we love to automate! Provisioning systems, configuration and change management (Python, Ansible, Puppet)

This is a specialised role requiring a background working with scientific applications and previous experience in supporting researchers.
